Beyond Rewilding
"Beyond", a blend of high tech such as in SF author Bruce Sterling's Viridian Movement, and low tech which primitivists demand. (See below for websites and books.) Like any cultural change, we need a blend of the best from tradition and innovation. The term "rewilding" is a bit primitivist, although it has some nice aspects. Also, people use it to mean different things, such as restoring the wild.

We need to be in tune with the environment, but not to turn away from all modern technologies. Some new technologies have a light or no impact on nature. Thus-"Beyond Rewilding".

Here's the radical rewilding stance (note that I, Cathy, do not advocate doing this, but playing with the concept):
What is Rewilding--shortened version of article from Wisegeek website (no author given) "Rewilding, when taken in the context of modern day human society, refers to a process by which the domestication of people is undone. The philosophy behind rewilding is based on the idea that over time, the changing civilization of humans has resulted in the domestication of the human being. Rewilding practices seek to reverse this domestication, and return human beings to a pre-civilized, wild state of being.". Rewilding the World by Caroline Frazier (this is different from what I call rewilding--it's about restoration...but a very good book.) |
